Lancers Foreign Service Helmet Plate

A scarce, Lancers general pattern, brass helmet plate with two lug fastenings (east and west). KK1126 or Rowe & Carman 53A.

Note: The 2nd Revised Edition of Kipling & King includes this plate in the section on reserve regiments of the South African war (chapter 21) but states this was a more general helmet plate for cavalry regiments serving abroad. Rowe & Carman confirms it was worn more generally by lancer units and suggests it was worn on the foreign service (cork) helmet.
