Early DCLI (Vols) FS Cap/Collar Badge

A scarce, white metal, field-service cap/collar badge for a volunteer/militia battalion of The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry with two lug fastenings (north and south). As Churchill 896.

Note: Churchill 896 describes the brass version, which it dates to c1881-82 only. There is no mention of a white metal/volunteer equivalent although this was fairly normal practice.

Ivall & Thomas (reference 90) also discusses the brass version, which the authors date to c1881-84. Again, there is no explicit discussion of a volunteer version.
