Early DCLI (Vols) FS Cap/Collar Badge

A scarce, white metal, field-service cap/collar badge for the 2nd volunteer battalion of The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry (?) with two lug fastenings (north and south). As Churchill 896.

Note: Churchill 896 describes the brass version, which it dates to c1881-82 only. He notes a white metal version has been recorded and states "it is possible that these were made for the 2nd volunteer battalion".

The 2nd VB DCLI were headquartered at Bodmin.

Ivall & Thomas (reference 90) also discusses the brass version, which the authors date to c1881-84. There is no explicit discussion of a volunteer version.
