RSF (Vols) Glengarry Badge
A two-piece, white metal, glengarry/collar badge for a volunteer battalion of The Royal Scots Fusiliers with two lug fastenings (north and south). Bloomer 2, 65, or Churchill 610.
Note: Bloomer's second book on Scottish Regimental Badges 1793-1971, shows this badge (with a slider fastening) as a volunteer battalion glengarry badge of the Royal Scots Fusiliers.
Churchill shows this item as a collar badge under the title of The Royal Ayrshire and Wigton Rifles (The Prince Regent's Own).
He states: "As with the majority of Rifles, this corps did not were collar badges. In 1881, they became the 4th battalion [Royal Scots Fusiliers], being renumbered 3rd in 1887.
"From then, the other ranks wore a larger white metal grenade with applied white metal thistle spray [this badge]. Also worn in the glengarry."
