Middlesex Regt WM Collar Badges
A nice pair of white metal collar badges for The Middlesex Regiment, each with two lug fastenings (east and west). Approximately 30mm x 30mm. Churchill 1444.
Note: Colin Churchill, in his book on the History of the British Army Infantry Collar Badge, is unsure on the use of these collars.
He notes it has been suggested these are 'walking out' collar badges but feels this is unlikely. Similarly, he accepts they could have been worn by warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers but feels this is unlikely.
He concludes: "It seems most likely that this item was worn by volunteer battalions before the use of battle honours were discontinued for volunteer units."
