Leinster Regt Officer's Helmet Plate
A rare, Victorian, silver and (slightly faded) gilt helmet plate for an officer of The Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) with three lug fastenings (north, east and west). KK283.
Note: Kipling & King states the central coronet was changed to gilt after 1900. It describes a black velvet centre, although I am informed this plate's red centre was a variation made of Moroccan leather.
I understand the difference in backings date back to the Canadian and Indian traditions of the regiment.
