Cinque Ports RV Collar Badges
A nice (non-matching?) pair of white metal collar badges for The 1st Cinque Port Rifle Volunteers, each with two lug fastenings (east and west). Churchill 987.
Note: Churchill states this unit was nominated as the 3rd VB Royal Sussex in 1881 but did not take up the title, maintaining their rifles status until 1908.
Churchill says this collar badge was introduced in 1899 and changed to gilding metal in 1908 when the unit became the 5th (Cinque Ports) battalion of The Royal Sussex Regiment.
He adds: "Even after 1908, the white metal badge was still being worn in full dress as a reminder of the volunteer tradition."
