Lincs Regt (TA) Officer's HP
A rare and attractive, silver and gilt, helmet plate for an officer of (likely the 4th or 5th territorial battalion of) The Lincolnshire Regiment with three lug fastenings (north, east and west). The reverse is marked for Hobson & Sons, Lexington St, London. As KK224.
Note: This looks to be a conversion from a Victorian plate - often carried out around 1902, as officer's were required to buy their own helmet plates.
The combination of the converted crown and blank scroll sphinx is intriguing - the territorial battalions came into force in 1908 and were not entitled to use the Egypt battle honour.
Perhaps this was an earlier militia officer's helmet plate or perhaps the centre is also a later addition?
