Cameronians 'Cheesecutter' Badge

A slightly faded, blackened brass/bronzed, 'cheesecutter'-style badge for an officer of The Cameronians (The Scottish Rifles) with two lug fastenings (east and west). The reverse bears a (curiously-shaped) plaque for retailer Wm Anderson & Sons, Military Outfitters, Edinburgh.

Bloomer, book 1 page 35, shows a version of this badge and describes it as an officer's (hallmarked silver) glengarry badge.

Note: Curiously, the bugle faces the opposite way to usual.

Colin Churchill, in his book on the History of the British Army Infantry Collar Badge, describes this as an officer's puggaree badge (reference 716), stating it is much larger and of a different format to the officer's service dress collar badge.

This badge does seem to be too large to have been worn as a collar?
