3rd Hants Collar Badge
A silver, (faded) gilt and enamel collar badge for an officer of the 3rd (militia) battalion of The Hampshire Regiment with two lug fastenings (east and west). Churchill 1014 or Woods 1.37.
Note: Churchill states such collars, in silver and enamel, were worn for a short time after 1881.
Terence Woods, in his book on 'The Military Insignia of Hampshire and The Isle of Wight', states "for a short time after achieving 3rd battalion status in 1881" officers wore this distinctive collar badge.
Woods states the rose is of red, green and gold enamel. I would say the 'gold' part is gilt (faded back to brass on this example) rather than 'gold enamel'.
