Hants Yeo Officer's Collar Badge (?)

A scarce, bullion, collar badge (?) for an officer/non-commissioned officer of The Hampshire Yeomanry. Approximately 33mm tall x 32mm wide. Woods 11.2 or Churchill 1044.

Note: Terence Woods, in his third book on 'Additional Military Insignia of Hampshire and The Isle of Wight 1702-2014', shows this as an unidentified badge.

He states it is "speculatively suggested as either a mess jacket lapel decoration or a collar badge".

Colin Churchill, in his book on the History of The British Army Infantry Collar Badge, also shows it as an unconfirmed badge and says it was "reputed to have been worn by senior NCOs on their mess jackets".

However, he adds: "The Regimental Museum staff are quite adamant that these badges were never worn."
