Hampshire Militia Cap Badge

A rare white metal round forage cap badge for The Hampshire Militia with two lug fastenings (east and west). Woods 2.7.

Terence Woods, in his book on 'The Military Insignia of Hampshire and The Isle of Wight', states: "A white metal scroll, 59mm wide, bearing the title of the regiment was worn on the other ranks' forage cap of 1858; this was the universal device of the day. Examples are also seen with a rose above the scroll as pictured."
