Essex Regt (Vols) Collar Badges

A pair of white metal collar badges for The Essex Regiment, each with two lug fastenings (east and west). Churchill 1223.

Note: Colin Churchill, in his book on the History of The British Army Infantry Collar Badge, states the 1st and 2nd volunteer battalions did not wear collar badges.

He notes the 3rd and 4th volunteer battalions "eventually wore the same badge as their regular counterparts but in white metal" (in 1896 and 1992, respectively).
