1st VB Leicestershire Regt HP

A rare and attractive, silver-plated and gilt, helmet plate for an officer of the 1st volunteer battralion of The Leicestershire Regiment with three lug fastenings (north, east and west).

Note: The reverse bears an unusual, circular, plaque for manufacturer J.R. Gaunt London.

The South Africa 1900-02 honour dates this plate to circa 1905-08 only.

Earlier officer's helmet plates for this unit had the three lions in pale with the label of cadency in the centre, I'm not sure when the centrepiece changed - any information would be appreciated. There are a couple of additional holes to the rear, perhaps for securing a previous centrepeice?
