5th Foot Glengarry Badge?
A brass glengarry badge for The 5th Foot (later 1st battalion of The Northumberland Fusiliers) with two lug fastenings (north and south). Worn circa 1874-81? This badge has a lot of verdigris and copper lugs. Wood 121.
Note: Colonel Denis Wood, in his book on The Fifth Fusiliers and its Badges discusses this curious badge and says the 'accepted' dates above are "doubtful".
He wonders if it is a version of Wood 125 (the later 'strap' pattern glengarry grenade) with a ‘modified’ centre?
He adds: "Whether this was done genuinely for the regiment circa 1881 or later, or whether the badges were produced for collectors or, say, a military tattoo after 1881 is not known."
