Berks Regt Officer’s HP

A rare, silver and (slightly faded) gilt, helmet plate for an officer of The Berkshire Regiment with three lug fastenings (north, east and west). KK262.

Note: The Berkshire Regiment was granted the Royal title in 1885 so this plate dates to circa 1881-1885 only.

Head-dress Badges of The British Army Volume 1, by Arthur Kipling & Hugh King, says the centre should be on black velvet - it states scarlet was used after 1891.
