RE (Vols) Officer's HP

A scarce, gilt, helmet plate for an officer of The Engineer Volunteers with two lug fastenings (east and west). KK871.

Note: Officer's helmet plates for volunteer Royal Engineers are usually silver-plated. Gilt plates are more associated with militia plates - I am not sure of the significance of this interesting and attractive plate.
