Royal North Gloucester Militia Officer's Shako Plate

A rare, silver-plated, officer's shako plate for the Royal North Gloucester Militia with two horizontal lug fastenings (east and west). Worn c1855-78. Some wear to the silver plating. Brinson et al E35.

Note: The bottom tip of the star has been twisted/shortened. Apparently, this was done officially so the plate could be transferred to the (smaller) last pattern shako.

An exceptionally rare, gilt, Albert pattern shako plate for an officer of The 85th Foot (Bucks Volunteers, later 2nd battalion of The King's Shropshire Light Infantry).

The plate has two lug fastenings (east and west) and three of four wire loops intact.

Note: Unfortunately, the top pearl on the orb of the crown is missing and one of the four wire loops behind the crown is missing.

This plate is described on p80 of Kipling & King volume 1 but not illustrated.

Note: This unit was raised in Bury in 1859 and became a volunteer battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers in 1881 (it was re-designated as the 1st volunteer battalion in 1883).
