A rare, blackened brass, glengarry badge for The 1st Gloucestershire (City of Bristol) Rifle Volunteers/1st (City of Bristol) volunteer battalion of The Gloucestershire Regiment with two lug fastenings (north and south). Brinson G46b.

Note: In his book on Military Insignia of Gloucestershire, Daniel Brinson dates this glengarry badge to circa 1882/3-1905.

Brinson states: "No example of this badge has been seen with a KC [King's crown, as worn post-1902]."

He adds: "The sole contractors for the glengarries were Messrs Skinner of Castle Street, Bristol with the die for the badges being manufactured by Messrs Smith, Snow Hill Birmingham."
