25th RF (Frontiersmen) Cap Badge

A rare, brass, cap badge for the 25th (Frontiersmen) battalion of The Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) with a slider fastening. KK1142.

Note: This badge is sometimes known as the 'garage' badge or the 'Gamages' badge.

Kipling & King states: "It is believed that this early badge was made from Grenadier Guards cap badges with the scroll added in a local garage".

However, there is some doubt over whether this badge was ever actually issued to Kitchener's Army soldiers of The Royal Fusiliers. A version of this badge was certainly offered for sale by London-based department store Gamages as a commemorative item in the years after WW1.
