A scarce, (blackened?) white metal, helmet plate for The 8th Lancashire (Bury) Rifle Volunteers with two lug fastenings (east and west).

Note: The top pearl in the orb of the crown is missing.

This unit was raised in Bury in 1859 and became a volunteer battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers in 1881 (it was re-designated as the 1st volunteer battalion in 1883).  read more
